At the annual Chrism Mass, Timothy Cardinal Dolan will offer Mass 
with all the Priests serving in the Archdiocese of New York 
where they will renew their priestly promises

The Deacons, Consecrated Religious, and Lay Faithful 
assisting at this Mass will promise to pray for 
Cardinal Dolan and the Priests serving in the Archdiocese.

The Oil of the Catechumens and Oil of the Sick will be blessed and distributed to each Parish to be used in the Sacrament of Baptism and Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick for the upcoming year.

The Sacred Chrism will be consecrated, distributed to the Parishes 
and will be used in the Sacrament of Baptism, Sacrament of Confirmation, Sacrament of Holy Orders as well as the Dedication of Churches and Altars.

Tenebrae (Latin for "darkness") is a religious service celebrated during Holy Week. Tenebrae is distinctive for its gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms are chanted or recited. One candle is extinguished after each of the nine psalms of Matins and the five of Lauds, gradually reducing the lighting throughout the service. The six altar candles are put out during the Benedictus, and then any remaining lights in the church. The last candle is hidden beneath the altar, ending the service in total darkness. The strepitus (Latin for "great noise"), made by slamming a book shut, banging a hymnal or breviary against the pew, or stomping on the floor, symbolizes the earthquake that followed Christ's death, although it may have originated as a simple signal to depart. After the candle has been shown to the people, it is extinguished, and then put on the credence table, or simply taken to the sacristy. All rise and then leave in silence.

On the summit of a hill a few miles north of Mexico City, Our Lady appeared to Juan Diego, a poor Aztec Indian convert, in December, 1531. In order that the Spanish Archbishop Zumarraga of Mexico might have faith in the apparitions, Mary made roses bloom on the cold, arid hillside, and impressed a picture of herself upon Juan Diego's roughly woven mantle. Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe has helped to weld into a nation the various peoples of Mexico; [millions of Indians were baptized and entered the Church] and her shrine has never been closed, even during the most bitter conflicts between Church and State in that country.

Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

El miércoles 12 de diciembre de 2018, la Iglesia Universal celebra la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. En 1531, la Santísima Virgen María se apareció a San Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin en la colina de Tepeyac. Ciudad actual de la ciudad de México. San Juan le contó a su obispo las apariciones, y el obispo se mostró escéptico, buscando más pruebas. Nuestra Señora envió a Juan Diego de vuelta al Obispo con rosas envueltas en su tilma.

Cuando San Juan Diego desenvolvió su tilma, el Obispo y sus consejeros se arrodillaron ante la imagen de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. En seis años, millones de aztecas se convirtieron a la fe católica. La imagen milagrosa de Nuestra Señora ha sobrevivido a muchos desastres naturales y provocados por el hombre y actualmente está entronizada en la nueva Basílica en la Ciudad de México, el sitio de peregrinación más visitado del hemisferio occidental.

On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, the Church Universal celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. In 1531, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin at Tepeyac Hill. present day Mexico City. St. Juan told his Bishop of the apparitions, and the Bishop was skeptical, seeking further proof. Our Lady sent Juan Diego back to the Bishop with roses wrapped in his tilma. 

When St. Juan Diego unwrapped his tilma, the Bishop and his advisors knelt down before the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Within six years, millions of Aztecs converted to the Catholic Faith. The miraculous image of Our Lady has survived many natural and man made disasters and is currently enthroned in the new Basilica in Mexico City, the most visited Pilgrimage Site in the Western Hemisphere.

Bretheren: Every high priest taken from among men, is ordained for men in the things that appertain to God, that he may offer up gifts and sacrifices for sins; who can have compassion on them that are ignorant and err: because he himself also is compassed with infirmity. And therefore he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. Neither doth any man take the honour to himself, but he that is called by God, as Aaron was. Le samedi 15 septembre, après la messe de 10h30, quelqu’un de Cabrini Immigrant Services, affilié au Sisterhood of Mother Cabrini, sera présent pour partager des informations pour les immigrants New-Yorkais, en français. Cette présentation est très importante, compte tenu des changements alarmants à Washington DC. La présentation comprendra des renvois à l’aide juridique gratuite et confidentielle, afin de discuter des questions juridiques liées à l’immigration, notamment l’asile, les cartes vertes, TPS, DACA, l’obtention de la citoyenneté, et que faire si vous êtes arrêté par ICE.
La présentation comprendra également des informations sur: l’éducation, y compris des cours d’anglais gratuits; questions de logement; soins de santé gratuits et à bas prix; obtention des Food Stamps; et protections contre la discrimination. On Saturday, September 15, after the 10:30 am Mass, someone from Cabrini Immigrant Services, affiliated with the Sisterhood of Mother Cabrini, will be present to share information for New York immigrants, in French. REGISTRATION FOR THE RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION - LA INSCRIPCIÓN PARA EL PROGRAMA DE INSTRUCCIÓN

REGISTRATION FOR THE RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION program at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Shrine will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018 and on Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 10:30 AM until 12 noon at the Parish Hall.
The Registration fee of $30.00 will be collected on those days. Priority will be given to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Families.
If you are registering the student for Holy Communion, please provide a copy of the child’s Baptism certificate.
If you are registering the student for Confirmation, please provide a copy of the Baptism and First Holy Communion certificate.
Classes begin on Sunday, October 7, 2018 starting with the
9:15 AM Mass in English.
Instruction begins at 10:30 AM until 12 noon at Mount Carmel/Holy Rosary School, 371 Pleasant Avenue (between East 119th Street and 120th Street.
